As we begin preparing our Atria for the fall, here are some recommendations for EPL sizing which will assist the children in their work.
Pitchers and Glasses:
- In looking for pitchers and containers I would advise pitchers no more than 3.5" in height. If possible, find pitchers and glasses that have "landmarks" on them like a handle or a line which we can use to say, "We pour to the line" or "We pour halfway up the round part" or "We fill the pitcher to the bottom of the handle." This removes the need to add lines to pitchers and glasses and leaves the items looking both beautiful and true to the real life pitchers and glasses children will encounter outside of the Atrium.
- In looking for trays I usually recommend looking for those that are smaller than half a sheet of paper or 5.5"x8.5". This is one of the most important recommendations. I have often seen trays larger than a full sheet of paper (8.5"x11") with just two pitchers for pouring work. I have trouble carrying a tray like this without spilling so I'm not surprised to see children struggling as well!
