- A Virtual Pilgrimage to the Holy Land by Fr. Michael Van Sloun. This 2012 article from "The Catholic Spirit" gives many home activity suggestions for Holy Week.
Holy Thursday: (White Prayer Cloth in the evening) Level I (Children's House): "This is my body which will be given for you; do this in memory of me." (Luke 22:19) What a gift. The greatest gift. Freely given. How can we open and enjoy this gift today? Level II/III (Elementary): In today's Gospel we hear about another gesture of Jesus on the night of the Last Supper. Read John 13:3-17. Think about what Jesus' gesture might have been saying. What would we be saying if we were to wash each other's feet? | Good Friday: (Red Prayer Cloth) Level I (Children's House): Take time in silence, focusing on an image of Jesus as you listen and speak with Him. Level II/III (Elementary): "He said, 'It is finished.' And bowing his head, he handed over the spirit." (John 19:30) Again, we see Jesus giving the greatest gift, the gift of all of Himself. Nothing is taken. He gives freely. Draw a picture of what He might have been thinking about on this day when He "handed over the spirit" and laid down His life. | Holy Saturday: (White Prayer Cloth in the evening) Level I (Children's House): "Do not be afraid!" "He has been raised from the dead!" (Matthew 28:5, 6) Are there any songs you could sing to celebrate and enjoy the Risen Life and Light of Jesus? Level II/III (Elementary): How could you and your family celebrate the great gift of Jesus' Risen Life? Could you plan a time of prayer to help begin this great season of joy? Perhaps the Liturgy of the Light from the Easter Vigil will give you some ideas. |
