This week we enter into the season of Lent which provides us time to prepare for Easter, the greatest feast of the entire year. Next Sunday’s Psalm Response is: “Your ways, O Lord, are love and truth to those who keep your covenant.” In the Gospel for Ash Wednesday we hear some of the Maxims, those sayings of Jesus which help us to live in love and truth, living well in the Kingdom of God. Read the Gospel passage which we will hear as we begin our Lenten journey and write out the Maxims which you find there. Can you find one Maxim about almsgiving, one about prayer, and one about fasting?
Level II and III Personal Gestures In the Scriptures which help us begin the Lenten Season we read about gestures or movements of the body which reveal the heart. In the Mass there are so many ways that we pray with our bodies. Make a list of the gestures that you pray at Mass and illustrate them. See how many you can list! 3rd-6th graders, choose five of the gestures you listed and write about when we pray them and why. Perhaps you would like to start with the gesture of kneeling. When do we kneel? Why do we kneel? What are we saying with our bodies through this gesture? |
