In these weeks of Ordinary Time we are hearing about miracles that Jesus worked while He lived on earth. A miracle is something only God can do which helps people to know that God is very close to them, living in their midst. Read Mark 1:29-31 to hear part of next Sunday’s Gospel. In it we hear about Simon who will one day receive a new name, Peter. His mother-in-law is sick and in bed. What does Jesus do? What does she do in response? Has Jesus healed you? Has He helped you to live more fully? In what way has He done so? How could you live in a way that is a response to His gifts?
Level II (1st-2nd) The Books of the Bible Find the Table of Contents in a Bible. Look for the two main parts of God’s Word: the Old Testament and the New Testament. What (or who!) makes the New Testament different from the Old Testament? Each of these parts of the Bible has four sections. Are they listed in your Table of Contents? In the Atrium we look at the Pentateuch, the Historical Books, the Wisdom Books, and the Prophetic Books in the Old Testament as well as the Gospels, Acts, the Letters, and Revelation in the New Testament. Draw an event from Scripture and write about what you have drawn. | Level III (3rd-6th) The Holy Bible Read what is listed for the Level II child and do the same work of finding and reading through the Table of Contents in a Bible. If someone were to ask you what is so special about the Bible, what would you say? Reread the definition of the Holy Bible above. Do you agree with these words? Do you have more to say? Write a paragraph explaining the value and importance of the Bible. Mention the difference between the Old and New Testaments, and list some of the truths that we find in at least two sections (e.g. the Pentateuch and the Gospels). |
