Level I (Children's House): The Raised Surface Map of Israel Do you remember which symbol is for Nazareth where Mary lived and where Jesus lived with Mary and Joseph when he was growing up? Which symbol is for Bethlehem where Jesus was born? Where is Jerusalem? Do you remember what happened just outside Jerusalem? Maybe you would like to draw a map of Israel this week. Perhaps you would like to make a booklet with a page for each of these three cities, showing what happened in Nazareth, in Bethlehem, and in Jerusalem. | Level II/III (Elementary): The Regions Map of Israel Level II (1st-2nd) In the time of Jesus, the four regions in Israel were called Judea, Samaria, Galilee, and Perea. Could you draw a map of Israel and label these regions as well as the cities mentioned above: Nazareth, Jerusalem, and Emmaus? You might have to use an atlas to find Emmaus! Level III (3rd-6th) Read again the Gospel for this Sunday (Luke 24:13-35). What do you think the disciples meant when they said, "Were not our hearts burning within us?" Take some time this week to write about what you heard in this Gospel or perhaps you would like to write about a time when your heart was burning within you. |
In the readings for this Sunday we hear about many different places. Jesus is called "the Nazarene" because he came from Nazareth. The people Peter is speaking to are called "Israelites" because they come from Israel. We hear about Jerusalem and Emmaus. All of these names refer to real places because the Bible tells us about real people who lived, spoke, and made decisions. Reading about their words and actions can help us to think about how we speak and live. Comments are closed.
