Psalm 19 lifts up the law of the Lord. The response which we will pray next Sunday to the words of this Psalm are: “Lord, you have the words of everlasting life.” Read Psalm 19:8-12. Make a list of all of the words that are used for “law” as well as the ways God’s law is described. We often think of rules as things which bind us or restrict us. This Psalm says the opposite! How do God’s laws help us to live well in this moment and to prepare for the moment of Parousia? How is His law a gift to us?
1st-4th The Lavabo Before the priest asks God to send the Holy Spirit down to bring us Jesus at Mass, he washes his hands with water and prays, "Wash me, O Lord, from my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin." This gesture reminds Father of his Baptism. It can also remind us of the day we were washed clean on the inside. The next time you are at Mass, watch for this gesture. It helps us to know that we are entering the holiest part of the Mass. Write the words of Father's prayer, and draw the gesture as well as what God might be doing within the priest (and us if we ask!!) at this moment. | 5th-6th Exodus Typology: Exodus 20:1-17 God, in His great love, gave the Israelite people who were leaving Egypt and preparing to enter the Promised Land a set of commandments which would help them to live as His people. We know these as the Ten Commandments. Read the passage from Exodus 20, and make a list of the Ten Commandments. How might the Maxims help us to live these commandments? See if you can find one Maxim (or more!) which helps us to live each commandment. |
